Volunteer Roles

Here are just some of the volunteer roles you can step into:

Greeter

Greeters are the welcoming face of our rallies. They thank people for coming, share the ABCs of our protest, and help participants know where to go. They also hand out materials and support our safety team by flagging any concerning behavior.

Organizer

Organizers coordinate logistics and expectations in advance, maintain a stead presence during the event, and help with key decisions as they arise. They serve as the backbone of the action, keeping everything aligned and running smoothly and safely.

50501oc Tabler

Tablers staff the 50501oc table, serving as an information hub for attendees. They answer general questions, share details about our organization, and guide participants to take action.

Press Contact

The Press Contact coordinates with organizers in advance to issue press releases and ensures media outreach is aligned. During the event, they verify press credentials, field interviews, and serve as the spokesperson to communicate the goals of the protest.

Volunteer Coordinator

Volunteer Coordinators welcome, check in, and orient volunteers, making sure they have the tools, info, and support they need for their role. At the end, they gather materials, debrief, and collect feedback to strengthen future actions.

Emcee

The Emcee sets a high-energy, unifying vibe, manages the microphone and sound, and guides participants through the program. They introduce speakers, cover key talking points, and make announcements about logistics and safety.

Speaker Liaison

The Speaker Liaison checks in and orients speakers, run sound checks, and trains them on mic use and timing. They support smooth transitions during the program and are ready to cut the mic if hate speech or violence is incited.

First Aid

Medics provide first aid or CPR as needed. They stay alert and evaluate if additional emergency care is required.

Police Liaison

The Police Liaison is the only volunteer on site trained to communicate with law enforcement. Other roles should not speak to law enforcement, as your words may be used against you in an unforeseen event.

Safety Team

Safety Team members de-escalate conflicts, guide movement, and communicate with medic, police liaison, and organizers. They help ensure the event remains nonviolent and safe for all.

Observer-Recorder

This role supports the safety team by observing and documenting incidents. They record threats, vehicle info, or other incidents, and gather statements from witnesses if needed.

Chant Leader

This role leads chants using a megaphone, announces messages as requested, and supports safety volunteers in keeping participants in designated areas.

Photographers & Videographers

This team captures photos and videos at rallies, prioritizing crowd, signage and booth coverage. Professional equipment is not necessary; smartphone photos and videos are acceptable. Captured content is uploaded promptly to our media library for use by our social media managers.

Music Coordinator

This role plans and manages live or recorded music, coordinates volume with the emcee during speeches, and organizes musical performances aligned with rally themes. They also support chants and activist karaoke.

Sign Support

Sign Supports distribute materials for sign-making, flyers, and stickers. They encourage creative activism and assist with banner, chalking, or other visual protest projects while following legal guidelines.

Creative Team

The Creative Team designs and produces zines, banners, flyers, and swag for rallies. They support awareness campaigns and encourage participation in 50501OC/OC Indivisible actions.

Supply Team

The Supply Team manages rally materials like tables, chairs, and sound equipment. They bring consumables such as water and snacks, coordinating drop-off/pickup logistics.

Mutual Aid

Members of the Mutual Aid team help to coordinate our efforts with local organizations to provide essentials and financial support directly to the people who need it most, including those affected by ICE raids in Orange County.

Vetter

Vetters help screen and process volunteers through a multi-step Signal verification, then assign them to roles based on skills, interests, and availability.

Equipment Manager

Equipment Managers track, transport, store, and set up large equipment needed for rallies, including speaker systems, tents, and tables. They charge batteries and coordinate pickup/drop-off logistics.

Organizational (Org) Support Team

The Org Support Team assists remotely with volunteer coordination, event planning, and online tools. They support secure communications and limited social media/video tasks.

Don't see a role here for you? No matter your abilities, we have a spot for you. Join our Signal to get connected and contribute to the movement in whatever way you can.
