This Week's Focus: Cuts to FEMA
The federal government wants to eliminate the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This is the agency that provides emergency aid during natural disasters, public health crises, and humanitarian emergencies. Cuts to FEMA disproportionately harm vulnerable families and front-line communities, and the impact here in Southern California would be devastating. Wildfires, which increasingly threaten our region, demand rapid response and recovery support. We saw this firsthand during the major fires in LA earlier this year. At this week's rally, we'll dig into what's at stake and what we can do about it.
Mutual Aid Collection
Every week we collect unexpired nonperishable and comfort items for mutual aid. This week, items will go to organizations providing direct aid to families affected by immigration raids. Accepted contributions include:
- cereal, pasta, rice, beans
- sugar, salt, oil, flour, coffee
- canned food, bottled water
- soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant
- toilet paper & paper towels
- dish & laundry detergent
- menstrual care products
- baby diapers and wipes
If you'd like to help and are unable to attend, please consider donating to the Know Your Rights "Red Card" distribution effort or to the United Across Borders Foundation. There are many ways to support the movement, and every action, big or small, makes a difference. Thank you for showing up in whatever way you can.
